Aarunya Psychiatric nursing home is the In-patient unit of Punah Santulan.
Aarunya Psychiatric nursing home is an 8 bedded setup which caters to emergency psychiatric admissions. At Aarunya Psychiatric nursing home, we have a team of well qualified and expert professionals to take optimal care of your well-being during the period of admission as well during your follow up. Our team at Aarunya Psychiatric nursing home consists of Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Nursing staff and attendants who are experienced in treatment and management of a wide range of mental health conditions which generally require acute admissions.
Acute conditions for which we seek admissions are:
• Schizophrenia or Psychotic episode: it usually involves symptoms like Hallucinations (experiencing sensations like vision, touch, smell, taste or hearing which is not experienced by other people), delusions, paranoid ideas, odd-irrational thinking and beliefs. Admission is usually required when they become aggressive, violent, refuse food or start to become threatening or suicidal.
• Bipolar Affective Disorder (BPAD): This involves episodes of extreme mood swings which could sometimes appear as symptoms of mania (high energy, grandiose ideas (believing oneself to be a special person or having special powers), hypersexuality, over-familiarity, risk taking behaviours, anger outbursts, overdressing, over-expenditure, etc). Or it may appear as symptoms of depression (low mood, lack of interest, low energy or fatigability, pessimistic thoughts, suicidal ideation etc.)
• Addiction: It is an illness of brain and behaviour, characterized by chronic and persistent use of substance like alcohol, opioids, cannabis, cocaine, BZDs (sleeping pills), LSD, MDMA etc. Addiction involves strong desire, difficulty in controlling, craving, increased tolerance, preoccupation, harmful effects on health, withdrawal symptoms, lack of interest in other life aspects.
• Suicidal tendencies: it is often seen as individual having active/passive death wish, attempt to harm oneself or with an intent to end one’s life. In any case this needs expert care and supervision. Even if there is no suicidal ideation, individuals may indulge in cutting, overdose and other risk taking behaviour to relieve themselves from psychological and emotional pain.
• Anger outbursts: in some cases anger becomes uncontrollable and can pose a risk to the person or the other’s life, it may also involves damage to property.
• Diagnostic Clarification: Mental health is a complex field. There are times the presenting symptoms could be complicated, especially in chronic cases, making it difficult to diagnose and to provide efficient treatment in a single consultation or session. In such cases it is advisable to admit the patient under professional supervision until a diagnosis is made and its adequate treatment plan is decided on.

If gardening is a passion, our balcony and terrace have a kitchen garden that the inpatients can help taking care of.
The metro station is less than 100m away with the Blue line connecting to all prominent areas in Delhi for patients to indulge in outings with family during their inpatient stay when rehabilitation process has been initiated.
Gloria is our young yellow Labrador. Some days, she super friendly, some days super naughty, but most days she is super lazy but everyday Gloria is super stress buster. Right now she is a therapist in training, so for now my role is just observation.
Patients will be admitted and discharged on their request. We also provide pick and drop services for the patient.
Relative staying with the patient full time is preferable, if female patient, then a must.
The IPD infrastructure is not wheelchair friendly but arrangements can be made.
